Designing and creating my own clothes and generally making pieces from whatever bits and bobs I can find is something I have been passionate about for a long time.
The Denim Summer Dress - Above you can see the beginnings of the first dress I made. It can be unbuttoned and each garment can be worn separately. I also included pockets in the skirt (always handy). I loved the strawberry embroidery on this fabric and it fit beautifully.
This view on the left of the back is the unfinished piece. The right you can see the final fit.
The Pinafore Dress - Here I went for wooden buttons and decided to go without the pocket on the front that you mostly find on a dress of this style. Instead, I put hidden pockets in the skirt.
I chose a softer wool blend fabric this time. The fabric also has a lovely weight to it, so it moves beautifully.
The Screen Printed Camisole - To make this camisole I needed to create my own simple pattern design. I planned to make the camisole in my screen printed linen fabric. This was the first time I had created a pattern so I decided to make it with a Navy cotton first. You can find more details on how I designed and created the pattern for this fabric in the screen printing tab.
The Tropical Dress - Here I chose a fun flamingo print fabric for this halterneck style dress. I love the fullness of the skirt. I made a skirt lining for this one as the fabric was slightly sheer. Next time I will try slightly less gathers and see how that turns out.
Starting to take shape. There are a lot of stitches still to remove on the bodice in this picture from the baste stitches.
The Lucy Dress - I made this dress for a 5 year old. I decided to use a bow print knit fabric and a bright red fabric for the skirt. I chose black and white buttons to match the bodice print and a white ribbon to finish the design.
This Photo was taken right before my overlocker died. Luckily most of the skirt lining had been finished.
To the right you can see the gathering stage of the net fabric that will go underneath the skirt.
Below the skirt is coming together and the bodice being attached followed by the finished dress.
The Esme Dress - I decided to make another dress in the same design as above but this time for a 7 year old. I still had some of the linen llama fabric with my screen printed design. I used this for the bodice and a simple Navy cotton fabric for the skirt.
I chose an Ivory ribbon and nude net to add some contrast to the skirt but still tying in with the colours of the dress. I also added buttons with a small pop of colour. I did this to add a little youthful feel to what felt like a grown up colour pallete in comparison to the Lucy dress.
